Today started out just like any other day. I don't think that Elsie got the memo that it was Mother's Day when she woke up at 6:30am and didn't want to go back to sleep. So Mother's Day started out really early. JJ was cute he creeped into my room and left a sack of goodies and cards for me. Emma also didn't get the memo and was in a MOOD when she woke up. I started to wonder if the day might not be so hot. Then Jeron and JJ made me breakfast in bed. Very sweet of them. The bad thing about being the mother of mostly girls is on Sunday you don't get the day off for hair. We got ready for church and headed out the door. Emma and JJ were fighting like cats and dogs. "One day off PLEASE!" Then we sat down and they would not stop. They went and sang and I forgot about that so JJ still had his Mohawk! Yikes! a Mohawk on his head. Then I asked JJ to do something and he completely disobey me. I asked him if he had a desire to obey and he said "NO" So I started crying because I realized on Mother's Day that I failed as a Mother. So yes I had the pity party Mother's day. I even went home and didn't go to the rest of church.
Jeron knew I was being a bit sensitive so he had a good talk with the kids on the way home from church and they came in and apologized and the rest of the day went swimmingly. I don't know why I was so sensitive today but I was. So I am glad that the kids worked out their issues to help me out. Then I realized that I really haven't completely failed as a Mom. They did care enough to say sorry.
We then went and picked wild flowers for the table center piece. I cut up fruit, made rice crispy treats, and molten lava cake. We then opened presents. I got a new pair of shorts. Yeah for me! And lotion. Thank you for the nice things Daddy and the kids.
Last year we did a really nice brunch for our Moms. This year with the surgery and some scheduling conflicts we ended up doing a Bar-B-Que with them on Mother's Day. I know it is tacky a BBQ instead of Brunch but our church is at 11:00 so it had to be this way. Linner is never as nice as Brunch so BBQ it was.
Everyone helped out and it turned out really nice. I hope our Moms enjoyed it. Ashlee and Smitty made yummy Italian soda and salad. Dad and David made delicious teriyaki steak sandwiches. (a Monson Fav) Jan brought her famous Pasta Salad.(even though we told the Moms not to bring anything) I made Molten Lava Cake, and we had fruit with dip, and crackers with dip. Jeron and Dad did a great job manning the grill. Did I mention we ate a lot. I think it turned out really nice. I sure hope that our Moms know how grateful we are for them and that they felt of that love yesterday.
Happy Mother's Day
