Washington DC Day 1

This is our FIRST trip without kids in 10 years. I can't believe all that goes into getting ready for a trip when you are leaving your kids. I very first have to give a HUGE shout out to Amy and Steve Bouck, Tara and Jeff, and David. With out their willingness to help out we never would have been able to go. So here is a big THANK YOU for that. It was so nice to know that our kids were in good hands. They even stayed at our house so the kids would feel more comfortable. With the arrangements underway and packing done my mom took us to the airport. Jeron hadn't been on a plane since 9/11 so everything was very new to him. He did it like a pro though. Once on the plane it finally set in that I was FREE! Every time I have flown it has been with 2 kids. This time I just had to worry about my stuff and Jeron even carried my bags. I didn't know what to do with myself. Until I realized I should just enjoy it. So I did!

It was so great to see Maren and Lucy pull up. I felt bad because I kind of gave Maren a half hug because I was trying to see Lucy. She is so much bigger and ADORABLE! It was great to actually touch her and hug her. Web cam is great but it leaves you feeling like you didn't get enough.

Thanks to Ryan we were lucky enough to take a tour of the Pentagon right when we got there. We were given a cool tour that let us see what it is really like in there. The Secretary of Defense was even there and we saw his body guards. No pictures because it is classified. If I took any I would have had a sniper on my butt;)

After that Maren and Ryan took us to dinner. We have been meaning to go to Cactus Cantina and have never gone so we went there the first night. It was delicious. We love Mexican food so we were thrilled to go have so great fajitas.

Cute little family
Look how big she is. She is a doll face
There was a Jalapeno pepper on the tray and I took a bite. It was really HOT! Jeron and Ryan teased me about this so I told them to bite it. It was a rare hot jalapeno. Jeron thought I was being a wuss so he took a bite. By the looks of his eyes I am pretty sure I was right.
Then Ryan had to make sure both of us weren't wusses so he took a bite and by the look of him I think he knew it was hot. Oh wait, he thought it was so hot that he about started crying. He had to have a drink of milk brought out. He was trying anything he could find to get it to stop hurting. It was hilarious. Out of the three of us little ole' me handled it the best. I beat two men. Ha! this pic of Ryan is my favorite of the trip by far.
After dinner we headed to the National Mall to see the monuments. I love these monuments. They honor some of the greatest men this nation has known. Lincoln has always been one of my most favorite presidents. That might be why I love this monument.

It was so nice for me to take pictures and spend time taking them. I had no kids telling me to go and Jeron was very patient with me.
I guess while taking this picture 4 European boys were standing behind me taking pictures of my booty. Mmmm, that made for a yummy shot. I was laying on my elbows with my big ole' fanny sticking in the air. Yikes that one is probably scary. Jeron got mad at them and said "What do you think you are doing?" They stopped immediately. My honey definitely could have taken them. It is nice to know he cared and protects my honor. I do like the shot though.

All this stuff about DC and all I can think is "holy crap, the first baby since Joseph F Smith?" You need to get out more!

I am glad you had fun... and from the pictures I know you did. It was fun to watch the kids and we can do anytime!

And maybe this time, Jeff will not eat all the fish!
