Not trying to be all preachy...it just made me think

From the mind of a third grader, after school today
JJ:"Mom I am scared, Obama poisons babies. I know he is going to win and he poisons babies."
Mom: "Where did you hear this?"
JJ: "Some kid at school told me."
Mom: "No he doesn't that is ridiculous"
JJ: "He agrees with abortion right?"
Mom: "Oh...yes he does."
JJ: "Then he poisons babies."
Mom: "It is not babies like Elsie, you know that right?"
JJ: "I know Mom, it is babies in a Moms tummy."

The more we talked the more I realized that the horrible image that my son was talking about was true. As much as I want to make things better in his eyes the fact still remained that being Pro Choice means that it is okay for someone to poison babies. We try to spin it by using other words such as embryo or fetus but in all reality that is exactly what it is, a baby. I don't ever use my blog to promote things but I am very much Pro Life. I always have been and always will be. It is sad for me that my son at such a young age is worried about this. I guess in a way it is good though also. I wasn't about to change his mind and in the process realized that I shouldn't. It was a hard conversation to have with him. In the end I felt bad that I couldn't make this better for him. He went to bed tonight very anxious and worried about the fact that Obama won. I tried to let him know that it isn't as bad as he thinks. He won't ever notice a difference while he is young, but I don't think he believed me.

Wow! From the mouth of babes. I love you J.J. and if it makes you feel any better, I didn't sleep much last night either. I love you!

Megan I haven't blogged for so long. It was so good to catch up with what your family is doing. Elsie is getting so big. Cute Halloween kids too. Britton was way nervous about Obama too. He kept coming out of his room last night asking what the score was. (I think he thought is was like a ball game). Anyway, it amazing how much these little kids talk at school. They over hear what their parents are saying but don't totally understand. So sweet about JJ.

Kids can really make you think, by not only the questions they ask, but the way they perceive things.

Brookelynn also had a similar evening, she was crying when we told her he won because she was told by some kid he would make white people slaves. Also she thinks we are all going to be poor because he will raise our taxes to high. I have felt anxious as well.

My kids were having the same concerns. I just tend to think it is a means to an end. What do I know though. I think I will e-mail you with the rest of my comment, so as not to offend. Miss you terribly, and Hope you know that you are a great mom, and you are right, even though doing things is sometimes like pulling teeth, that's what we do! and it is so much fun once we do it.

How awesome that at his age he is already paying attention to such important issues. I am not an Obama supporter but the morning after he was elected the sun still came up, I was still alive and I'm sure it will happen again tomorrow.

Well I've already talked to you about this. I think JJ is very smart and he likes to learn. I hope he realizes that Obama doesn't actually want to "poison" babies, but he is on the wrong side of the abortion issue. Anyway, I'm not going to get all preachy. Love you!
