faRmiNgtOn cAnYon...aNd thE fiSh

Megan: "Hey kids, do you want to go on a drive up Farmington Canyon?"
Kids: "Yes! Yes! Yes!"
Megan: "Hey Hon does that sound okay?"
Jeron: "Sounds good!"
Megan: "Okay after we eat and clean up we will go."
After about an hour the kids are playing video games and Jeron is straightening up.
Megan: "Okay let's go."
nothing happens
Megan: "Okay let's go."
still nothing
Megan: "OKAY, LET"S GO!"
Emma goes to the car
Ellie: excited "K K K K K"
JJ: half paying attention..."Where?"
Megan: Irritated now "Farmington Canyon"
JJ: "Can I stay home?"
Mom: "NO"
JJ: "Whhhhy?"
Mom: now I am yelling "BECAUSE WE ARE GOING TO GO AND HAVE FUN AS A FAMILY! GET IN THE FREAKIN CAR NOW!!!!"
JJ: "I don't want tooooooooooooooo."
Mom: "NOOOOOOOOOOOW"
JJ: pouts all the way to the car.
We are heading up the canyon and I am saying how pretty the trees are, and this is my kids.
Emma: "Are we going to ever get out?"
JJ: "Dad don't kill us."
Ellie: starting to fall asleep.
Mom: "ELLIE WAKE UP!ELLIE WAKE UP!ELLIE WAKE UP!"
Emma: "This is boring are we ever going to stop?"
This went on until we stopped. Then we got out and the kids played around and loved everything. They loved the snow, they loved the creek, they loved the rocks. Emma had a bit of a melt down because I looked away while she was jump roping to step off a rock. That was it for her. She would not smile the rest of the time. We then got into the car and headed down. Now remember the way it started I don't want to go. Well it ended that way as well. It is no wonder we never do anything. The beginning and end are a joke. I like the middle though. I think JJ already acts like a teenager. He will never go with us when he really is one. I didn't know that it started so young. Emma is sick so her whining made sense, but I still don't like it. I am glad that Ellie is always a little ray of sunshine. She just seems to have a positive attitude about things. I hope that never changes.

I promised Emma that we would stop at the ponds on the way down. Jeron tried to talk me out of it, but in the end he turned up the road. When we got there JJ found a trail that lead to the creek. We all followed him over. There was a man that was talking to JJ when I approached. He had a bucket of fish, and told us in broken English that he "caught with bare hands...I show." Gesturing to JJ. JJ thought that was a cool idea so they head off into the creek as I watch from the side. Jeron of course had to go with them.

The man caught a fish in about one minute. Sure enough he was using his hands. Jeron and JJ scouted out a good spot and tried to get one. JJ was a little hesitant so the fish got away. Then I told them to try this spot by me. They ignored me, what do I know I am just a girl. After about 15 minutes later they finally tried my spot. And what do you know...fish!

Jeron found one again and let JJ come and get it. JJ didn't want to let this one pass him by so when he grabbed it he stuck his finger in its gills. He caught it but it flipped out of his hands. Jeron quickly saved the day and caught it for him.

Way to go my rough and tough mountain men. We would never starve with these two around. How many of you can catch a fish with your bare hands? Pretty awesome if I do say so myself.
This is why you push through the whining and fruastrating moments. Once you get going that is when you get to see your kids truly enjoy themselves.

that sounds so awesome. You have no idea how far we would have to drive to find fish in a real life pond! I know what you mean about the beginning and end. Thank goodness for the middle!

HA! How did JJ do that? He's awesome. First off... why do you post a million posts in one day! I feel like I starve for something for days and days and then you dump everything in one day, so I can only comment on one post because I get overwhelmed. I do appreciate the posts though, so if this is the only way you'll do it then I'll TAKE IT! I miss you guys so much. All your kids look so old - I LOVE Emma's hair like that. She's a doll. And what is the red all over their mouths? I thought Ellie bit her lip or something again and it scared me. And Elsie is a doll. I can't wait to come home and play with her in December! ORRRRR you could come visit me?????? HAHA I love you and miss ALL of you!

I was laughing all through your post. I battle with Cameron to go and do fun things too. He seems to want to stay at home ALL the time! Of course once we are out he is in heaven-so confusing! Looks like you all had a wonderful time-thanks for sharing it all!!

This was great. I loved it. I laughed the whole time thinking this sounds just like my family. So glad to know we aren't the only family that deals with this. :)
